GREENVILLE SC

THIS IS THE DOWNTOWN GREENVILLE CITYSCAPE

In Greenville, we are very proud of our Downtown and the exciting revitalization that has occurred over the past 25 years. The redevelopment has focused on a vision to have "a thriving Downtown which is recognized nationally as an example of a 'state-of-the-art' community in which to live, work, and play...which serves in itself as a national attraction." Due to the dedication of many throughout the community, Downtown is alive and flourishing as the home to offices, shops, restaurants, entertainment, and many residents.

Downtown Greenville is the pre-eminent business center of the upstate accounting for over one-third of the total office space in the Greenville/ Spartanburg metropolitan area with almost 3 million square feet and the largest concentration of headquarter offices in the region.

In recent years, Downtown Greenville has also developed into a dining/entertainment destination. With over sixty restaurants and pubs centered around Main Street, Greenville's Downtown offers the greatest concentration of dining options in the entire Upstate area.

Visitors to Downtown can enjoy, in addition to great dining, a year-round series of special events suited to the season and appealing to almost every taste. From April through September, weekly concerts ranging from folk to jazz entertain visitors three nights a week while larger Downtown celebrations mark the coming of each new season. With almost 200 event days a year, Greenville leads the region in hosting visitors.

Since the Downtown is a center of business, culture, and entertainment, not surprisingly it has also become one of the most desirable residential districts in and around Greenville. In coming years, the unique benefits of living Downtown will attract more and more residents, giving the Downtown area an even more well-rounded character.

Greenville's Downtown also has long been the cultural center for the region, featuring the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, the Greenville County Art Museum, the Greenville County Library, and a number of private galleries and theatre venues. In addition, there is fun for the whole family in Downtown with many parks, events, the zoo and the new BI-LO Center arena.   There has been free, family oriented entertainment every weekend during the spring, summer, and fall for years - I expect it to continue for years to come.

THE NEWEST ADDITION TO DOWNTOWN GREENVILLE IS THE LIBERTY BRIDGE

How many cities have a 60 foot water fall in the middle of downtown right on main street?

The $4.5 million Liberty Bridge does more than span the Reedy River -- it serves as the focal point of Falls Park , showcasing man’s creativity alongside nature’s beauty. The bridge is 355-feet long, 12-feet wide, has a horizontal curve radius of 214-feet and 90-foot towers weighing 26 tons each.

The unique design, created by architect Miguel Rosales of Boston , will provide spectacular views of Reedy River Falls.

The bridge's suspension towers stand lean downstream at a 15-degree angle. Subtle lighting in the bridge's handrails and from underneath gives it a glowing effect. Visitors truly will feel as if they are floating over the park.

In addition to the Reedy River Falls, the bridge is the perfect place to view the magnificent public gardens below.
